OUR MISSION

Our Mission Statement

At Underdog Rescue of Alabama, our mission is to give overlooked, abandoned, and at-risk animals a second chance through rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible adoption. By partnering with rural shelters, we work to save animals facing homelessness, neglect, or euthanasia and provide them with the medical care, behavioral support, and compassion they need to thrive.

We believe every animal deserves an opportunity to be seen, valued, and loved – because every underdog deserves a chance.

SINCE 2015

Our History

Underdog Rescue of Alabama was founded in 2015 by Jill Becker with a simple but meaningful mission: to remain a small, foster-based rescue focused on the animals who need us most. Rather than growing for the sake of numbers, Jill built the organization around providing individualized care for at-risk pets facing homelessness, medical challenges, behavioral needs, or euthanasia.

After leading the rescue for 10 years and helping countless animals find loving homes, Jill passed the torch to Lily Sawyer in 2026 to spend more time with her family. While leadership has changed, the heart of Underdog Rescue remains the same: a commitment to giving overlooked animals the second chances they deserve through compassion, dedication, and community support.
